Pasig Doctors Medical Center now delivers Covid-19 rapid antibody testing services, which is crucial in the ongoing fight against Covid-19.

Testing for Covid-19 is generally important to confront, delay, and stop the spread of the virus. Obtaining test results is the best way to ensure that patients are given the most appropriate care as possible. On a larger scale, it helps the country paint a picture of the actual number of suspected and confirmed cases. Thus, by minimizing the number of suspected cases, flattening the curve can become faster through early detection.

Covid-19 rapid antibody test is a blood test that identifies antibodies produced by the immune system as it develops immunity to the virus. This test can read immunoglobulin M (IgM), or the early immune response, and the immunoglobulin G (IgG), or the delayed immune response.

A positive IgM test indicates that the tested person may have been infected, may still be infected, or may have recently recovered from Covid-19 infection. On the other hand, IgG antibodies indicate that the tested person could have had Covid-19 in the recent past and have developed antibodies that help protect the body from future infection.

Covid-19 rapid test differs from the RT-PCR (polymerase chain reaction) Test, with each having its own pros and cons. RT-PCR detects the presence of virus and measures viral load, while rapid test measures antibodies.

As for test results, RT-PCR has longer waiting time, whereas the rapid antibody test yields faster test results. A positive rapid test result may require a confirmatory PCR based test afterwards, for accuracy purposes.

Pasig Doctors Medical Center welcomes walk-ins for Covid-19 rapid antibody testing. The rapid test is available 24/7, and the results may be acquired after a few hours. Additionally, the administration and interpretation of results are accomplished by trained PDMC health professionals. A certificate for back-to-work can be requested therein. Health cards that cover Covid-19 rapid tests may be used accordingly.
